Baseball Caps

These hats were originally inspired by classic baseball caps. I wanted to take the shape 40s baseball caps and experiment with different materials and embroidery. These have been the most fun projects that I have worked on in a long time because they are so simple but extremely rewarding to make.

I did quite a bit of research about eyelet machines and different machines that were used to stitch the eyelets into ball caps. Unsurprisingly, they are pretty rare. during my research, I found an attachment that several companies sold for their respective machines but there weren’t any options for the vintage machines that I had. In this video, you can see the attachment that I made based on photos of vintage eyelet stitching attachments and it works extremely well.

One of my favorite parts of making these hats is using my 1920s Singer Shoe patcher machine that I restored to stitch the hard-to-reach parts of the project like the brim and the sweatband.

I’ve found that people love the personalization of any garment or accessory that they are purchasing so I like to stitch names into the sweatbands of the hats.
